I am a firm believer that Kassian should not be on the first line but wow. He had a great game. Did anyone see his pass to Nuge on that 2 on 1 late in the third? It was Nuge that couldn’t convert, but great pass.
That pass was excellent. He waited until the d-man bit and tried to dive-block the pass instead of just lobbing it towards Nuge. It's a shame Nuge went wide on his release because that play so deserved goal.
Kassian is not a first line guy, but he actually trys and I think that's all we can really ask for at this point. I'm beyond caring about wins or losses this season. My criteria for a good game is how hard the team tried.
I would literally let Leon Draisaitl have sex with my girlfriend. God damn. Todd was not joking when he said Leon could challenge McDavid. I've always know he was rocket, but it's quickly becoming apparent to me he's top 5 in the league.
I love that Edmonton has two centres better than either of the Toronto centres.
And starting next year they will cost less, too.
The Draisaitl contact looks like a fucking steal now haha. I hope Toronto enjoys cap hell and not being able to make the moves required to push them over the hump.
Man I love the guy, but Klefbom needs to hit the net once in a while
I think his broken finger might be bothering him still.
It very likely still is, but let's not kid ourselves - Klef can't hit the net even with perfectly fine fingers.
Yeah, plus the hiatus from play may have screwed him up a bit. I'm sure he will get it sighted in eventually
Still mathematically in it!
Looking at our schedule in the sidebar here it looks like we actually have a really soft schedule.
We do. Canucks, Rangers, Devils, Yotes, Blues, Blue jackets, Senators, Kings, Stars, Ducks and Avalanche are all very winnable games. Not saying they will but if they get on a tear and win all those that puts us at 87 points with games against the Leafs, Knights x 2, Sharks and Flames. Right now the Blues are on pace for 88 points as the last wild card.
It's not likely we make it but if the boys keep this up we have a legit shot at playoffs still.
Meaningful games, that's all I'm asking for.
If we miss the playoffs, which I'm sure will happen, it will be bittersweet. Because the group's play is encouraging, but it would suck to miss out on a top 10 pick and still miss the playoffs at the same time.
We're at #8 now, I could see us leapfrogging 2-3 teams in the standings.
Not long ago people were talking about Dach, Cozens, Turcotte, and Byram as potential picks. Now we'd be lucky to end up with Krebs still on the board the way we're trending.
I could honestly care less about our draft position. Nothing is guaranteed with the draft lottery and we've drafted high a ton the last decade. This team needs to instill a winning culture asap imo. Also, absolute studs come out of the draft every year in the teens, it's up to our front office to make the right choice wherever they draft.
Not that I am saying your opinion isn't valid, I definitely get it and I'm not saying it's wrong. Personally, I think a winning culture and getting some positive news around the team heading into the summer is more important than maybe improving our draft position into the mid top 10.
Personally I’m sick of people still wanting these high draft picks when we are winning. It means we have a semblance of a team.
We have one of the best farm teams in the AHL for once in god knows how many decades, and we’re playing like we mean it.
Still a lot of holes in our game, but we need to thinking we will draft our way out of this problem. We have 2 top 10 players that we drafted. We’re good.
Winning culture, leadership, accountability. These will elevate the team, not another 1st rounder.
Well said. I could understand if we were 10+ points out and the Condors were struggling, sure play the young kids and try to use it as development/evaluation. But we are 6 points out with the Condors buzzing. This is not the time to be hoping for loses down the stretch.
Uh 4 of those teams are not "very" winnable. Lol
Well which ones?
The Jackets and Blues are both top 15 teams today. The stars aren't that far behind them and the Yotes have always played well against the Oil.
I'm being super glib about this but not entirely joking - the Blue Jackets are the latest team to fuck up their chemistry and overall effectiveness by acquiring Matt Duchene.
