ELI5:Why do people still request radios to play their songs?

With today's widely accessible internet, not to mention the option to just keep favourite music on your phone, why do people still request and vice versa - are asked by radio hosts to play their songs? Is it some kind of social aspect? Thanks!

Edit: nobody uses Walkmans any more :D

Well, I mean it's the same reason people still use postal mail to pay their bills, have land-line phones, subscribe to a newspaper and any other number of things that are "old fashioned," if the system works why change? I mean with the rise of technology and the growing move away from some of those things, you're sure to still have a contingent of people that are based in their old habits and customs and have no incentive to move to the newer technology.
