Felt like Jeff was hoping Rick would do the news anchor impressions at tribal council organically in one of the first 3 episodes and going into the 4th one knowing Rick would be the one voted out, he got fed up and was just like "Rick, c'mon just do the thing, make with the funnies."

Go fuck yourself Fiji.

I love the storytelling on AOE soo much, and it made me turn around heavily on Reem and now David. I just find it fun watching people stranded on the island, confused about what is happening and not taking the new situation well.

This season has been fun so far, but how a season is ranked and remembered depends largely on the post-merge. Having the edit skew heavily towards the premerge boots is not encouraging in that regard - the same thing happened with Game Changers. But who knows, maybe the Edge of Extinction twist will actually help out and keep things fresh. And if the original Kamas shine once they finally see the spotlight, we could easily get a decent season.

Game Changers and Ghost Island both had strong premerge casts and super weak postmergers.

Ghost Island was ok at best in my opinion

I have a hard time seeing this season’s redeeming quality if most of original Manu gets voted out and the post-merge segment is dominated by former Kama players. Simply put, I don’t know anything about most of them, just aren’t invested unlike the five Lesu members last night where I didn’t want any of them to go home.

I've really enjoyed this season so far. There have been small little moments in each episode that make me laugh and I enjoy how the editors have been having fun with the castaways, and I legitimately like and am rooting for multiple people to go far (which doesn't happen all that often). Could it all come crashing down with a bad postmerge? Sure, but for now I'm just enjoying the ride.

We've only seen four players leave so far and we know that two will be returning to the game at some point. So there's still a chance that Reem and Rick both end up in the final three or at least turn out to be influential jurors.

The point is, all bets are off with this season and for now we just have to trust/hope/pray that the storytellers know what they're doing.

The Extinction twist is very much a wild card that could have an overwhelmingly positive effect, despite the twist in theory being despised. And it is positive that it is seemingly closer to the Outcasts, which had two huge post-merge characters in Burton and Lil, than Redemption Island, which has essentially fizzled in every iteration with the exception of spicing up SoPa's endgame.

That being said, I still think the odds of something cool happening are on the lower end. The deck is absolutely stacked against the merge returnee. They could be an easy target. Even from an entertainment standpoint, Chris would seem like the current favorite to return in that spot, and he would be the least interesting. With the F4 firemaking challenge, there's a little more room to breathe for the late game returnee. But it's still a pretty big question mark, especially factoring the jury.

In the end, we'll see what happens. I'm interested in seeing where this will go, and I'm invested in the season. It's certainly been executed a lot better so far than the fandom's really low expectations, but it also still has a long way to go.

Does Rick ironically have the best chance to win out of his OG tribe by being the first voted out from that alliance? That emotional tribal set them up to have the warm and fuzzies for each other, and he gets to carry that feeling back into the game if he ever returns, while the others have to keep playing against each other for some time—and likely will need to turn on one another to get any semblance of a majority at the merge. He can latch onto their strategic decisions by returning after they’ve already happened, but he will still have the good will from that tribal and from not having actually participated in the line drawing.

Feels unfair if someone returning from being voted out wins. But I could easily see a path for him.

I think you're correct, but beating Chris in any sort of physical challenge to get back into the game (assuming that's how EI works) is going to be quite the obstacle.

I liked the idea they floated on Know it Alls of the EoE players having a tribal to vote someone back in the game, rather than a challenge. That’s how they did it in PI and makes for a more compelling dynamic for the EoE scenes. Rick would have a real shot in that case.

Haven't watched this week's KIA episode but that would be quite the interesting twist. He'd have a lot of work to do to win the votes of Reem and Keith.

But what is the criteria for voting? Wouldn't they vote for Reem or Keith, who have no chance of winning the game? I wouldn't vote for someone strong or likable to come back in the game.

It would be the players who’ve already been voted out who would decide who’s most deserving of going back in. If I recall correctly, in Pearl Islands the outcasts were not allowed to vote for themselves. So it would make the social aspects of edge of extinction relevant.

Agreed. Maybe there will be a puzzle?

I would hope that they make a "returning challenge" have some elements of all Survivor challenges. Balance, swimming, strength, focus/patience, and a puzzle to top it all off.

Or they could just do an eating challenge to see who comes back... that would be ELECTRIC!!

Eating challenge 100% that’s an amazing idea.

level 6

Reem has this in the bag if it's a crow eating challenge.

I still think some kind of social challenge would be better than a physical one.

It's an endurance challenge.

Maybe it's endurance? We've had some surprising winners in endurance competitions.

level 4

I'd love to see them bring back the perch challenge to decide who gets to re-enter the game. Makes it more about who really wants it and less about who's the best athlete or puzzle-solver.
