How to automatically delete messages from an Exchange 2007 hosted mailbox

We maintain a postmaster account that receives a copy of all NDRs for our organization for IT to access. This amounts to hundreds of emails a day, and becomes unmanageable very quickly.

We're looking for a way to have the server automatically expire emails over X amount of days (3-5 is probably fine) without having to access the account with an Outlook client. I was considering trying to set up a rule to auto-delete all messages and set deleted item retention, but that seems wonky. Is there a proper way to do this?

that's how I'd do it, Exchange 2007 isn't as sophisticated as its newer brothers
