Who is the actor who played The Awesome? He looks so familiar!

level 2

Beck Bennett, also from SNL.

level 1

In Episode 4, Annie gets mad at Ryan because he said he was fucking her and another girl. Annie mentioned earlier on in the episode that the party was going to be their second date, and they legitimately have never had a conversation about being exclusive at this point. I understand it sucks to hear that someone you really like is fucking someone else, but at this point, he's not her boyfriend, and he's allowed to be with whoever he wants, so why is she mad at him? I understand the show has pointed out 50 other flaws in him, but for this to be the last straw is just weird to me, when other things he has done are definitely worth not pursuing a relationship with someone (not feeling comfortable enough to tell him she got an abortion, for example). Him fucking someone else when they aren't even in a relationship isn't that big of a deal compared to the other shit he's done

Might have had something to do with Annie's insecurities. The other girl Ryan was fucking is petite and skinny, and probably younger. And I'm willing to bet Ryan didn't make that other girl sneak out the back door to avoid his brother and friend seeing her like he did to Annie.

this is an amazing show! i've been relatively skinny all my life so it was really interesting seeing this perspective. i would love to watch more like this!

How is Annie not terrified of getting fired?

level 2

Because she has a fat ass and big titties and she tells men what to do.

Or we could be witnessing her during a stage in her life where she gets more ballsy about speaking honestly.

level 1

Ok, can we talk about Annie's boss Gabe got a moment. I get that he's supposed to be this sassy gay guy, but he just comes across as mean, pretentious, and self indulgent. The way he talks to Annie and even all his employees is fucking ridiculous and no one in real life would stand for that shit. As my fianceé pointed out, he's like a poor man's Andy Dick. I don't think I'm alone here, right?

level 2

I understand where you are coming from but I disagree. First, I think Gabe (and assistant Ruthie) had most of the show's true laugh out loud moments.

While he's clearly gay, I don't think he was supposed to be, nor did he come off as, the "sassy gay" archetype. He definitely was supposed to be mean, pretentious, and self indulgent, and he sure did.

The way he talks to his employees...unfortunately, I don't see that as unrealistic. In fact, while his treatment of Annie was horrendous at times, she legit went over the magazine owner's head and published an article he had nixed. You're going to get in trouble for that.

Poor man's Andy Dick..I don't think he was going for that vibe myself.

level 2

He's supposed to be a dick. He's played by John Cameron Mitchell, who is most famous for Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I do agree that IRL I cannot imagine people working for the character. I think they could have toned him down a bit to be more realistic.

It's really funny to hear people say that he isn't realistic. This show is based on Lindy West's life when she was working for The Stranger, a Seattle newspaper. Her boss at that time was Dan Savage (of Savage Love, It Gets Better, ITMFA, and frothy mix fame) and the character in the show is very clearly based on him. Exaggerated to be just a bit meaner and more pretentious, sure, but just a tiny bit exaggerated. And I bet Mr. Savage thinks it's hilarious.

People will deal with more in industries like writing or fashion.

I definitely love this show

I'm on episode 4. Love this show. Aidy Bryant is brilliant. This is real life shit.

Finished watching. Fran is officially my favorite character in this series. Even Aidy Bryant can't make me like Annie in the 6th ep (and I LOVE Aidy).

level 1

I’m on episode 3, but I HOPE she doesn’t end up with Lamar’s handsome brother. That’s how it seems to be going and it would be some insanely cliche and unbelievable that I would ruin the show for me.

level 2

Really? I found the insanely cliche angle to be her dating a guy who seems to have no positive attributes whatsoever

level 2

She's unhealthy, doesn't exercise but ends up with a hot, fit exotic guy...

yeah, that's the Lena Dunham BS fanatsy they keep selling fat girls

level 3

Why do you think you have authority to make such a generalization like that? There are plenty of attractive people with unattractive spouses. A lot of people don't have as much a preference for a body type. I've dated men who weighed less than me, same as me, and way more than me.

level 3

Wow. You do know fat chicks can land hot dudes too right? And also they grew up together so they probabaly had a connection deeper than just looks. Shocking I know, fat girls have personalities too.

level 3

Exactly! Thank you. If he was less attractive and more similar to her in looks then it would be fine. It also feeds to the stereotype that black guys like fat white women. I doubt they would’ve hired a fit, tall guy like Chris Hemsworth to hook up with her if her roommate were white, because the audience would see it as less realistic.

level 4

You really do take every chance you get to bash on white men huh? That’s all you do is be racist towards white men

Except that he does have a bit in common with Lindy's real life husband.
